This is the explanation of why this is the first post of the New Year. In December we were a bit shocked to realize we were pregnant! It was a huge surprise, not only because our last two children will be 17.5 months apart, but that we're going to have a fifth child at all. We just found out today that we get to have another GIRL join our family sometime in August!!! Cole is actually very excited. And yeah, we really haven't told anyone. Though I have to laugh when I look in the mirror and see how pregnant I look that only one person has flat out asked me if I was pregnant. Anyway, we're pretty excited and I'm actually still shocked that we're having another child, but I know that Heavenly Father really meant for this little one to come to our family.

Happy Birthday Diana (well on the 23rd)! Today we celebrated Diana's birthday by going to Chuck E Cheese. Yes, it was mostly for the older kids, but they really wanted her to have a fun birthday! She had fun, she liked the rides and the games, but she loved the cake!! I can't believe my baby is one year old already. It is so fun to be Diana's mom she is so happy and full of personality.

Merry Christmas family and friends!

For our friends that live a distance away from us we hope you're getting our Christmas Card soon! For hints with the cheesy crossword (all made by Athena) you can look anywhere on our website including the kid funnies page and our news archive. It's all things that happened this year, so you won't need to go any further back than this year. They were chosen, not because of importance, but that's what I was able to get to fit in the blanks. If you didn't get one it is because I don't have you correct address, so email me. If you are one of our neighbors, I'm sorry we didn't send them out to you. We figure you get enough of us as it is, but we still love you lots! And I'll post a copy on the website.

The kids all had a lot of fun decorating the tree this year. Bria and Cole both wanted to put the star on, so we put the star on twice. I was hoping that Diana would be afraid of the "pokey" tree like Ariana was for a few years when she was little, but no chance, she helped decorate it and has undecorated it several times.

Diana is starting to stand on her own and is into more and more things every day. She still loves to get her picture taken and I almost always get a smile out of her when she sees the camera pointed at her.

Cole will be 3 in a week and I can't believe it. He's as crazy as ever and is really starting to say some rather funny things lately. He can't stand for me to drive without two hand on the wheel all the time. This includes backing up and turning, which is slightly difficult. He often yells at me "Mom two hands, two hands!" as I turn.

Bria's rather expensive jump off Cole's dresser has completely healed. Thanks to lots of family and neighbors that kept her in their prayers and a priesthood blessing. The doctor was really surprise at how much it has healed and doesn't think they'll be a scar at all. He told her "You can tell people 'I just about ripped my lip off and you can't even tell.'" She has a style all her own too, I hope when we go places people realize that some times she has dressed herself.

Ariana is getting too old and too big. I can't believe we've had her for over seven years. She loves decorating for holidays and has made sure we got all our decorations up early. She helped a lot with our Thankful Turkey for Thanksgiving too. Poor girl is gone so much we don't get as many pictures of her anymore.

This is a funny one that I forgot to mention a couple weeks ago. Maybe it belongs under kid funnies. I picked Ariana up from school and she was (as is too often after school) chopping away on a sucker. All of a sudden she yells out "Mom, I think I just swallowed my tooth." I turn around and there's a bit of blood on her chin and she's missing a tooth. I still can't help, but laugh. A couple days later she found a note under her pillow with a dollar. The which was from the Tooth Fairy reminded her to take care of her teeth and eat carefully and not too much sugar. She said that this dollar was a freebie, but she wouldn't be doing it again for swallowed teeth. Poor tooth fairy probably had to go toilet diving for that one I guess. I'm glad I'm not the tooth fairy! Too funny!!

We had a great Thanksgiving!

We had our first annual Turkey Trot 5K in the morning. We had between a doz and two dozen people run it with us. Hopefully next year is even better. I wanted to take pictures, but forgot about it until just about everyone had gone home, so we only got a few.

This year Thanksgiving was at our house. We ended up having about 30 people. In the morning my sisters stayed after the run and played with the kids. They did Thanksgiving crafts and even a thanksgiving play. It was really nice so Austin and I could cook without having too much of an interruption.

It was a really fun dinner with lots of family and good food. We all had a lot of fun. Here's our favorite pics!

Yesterday was one of those days. I hear an explosion in the freezer, but it's not until I open it and see exploded soda all over that I remember the night before I had put a few drinks in to cool for a little bit. Diana hardly napped at all and I had to hold her most of the day.

I had the baby crying at my feet while I chopped veggies for dinner and I was trying to clean up the soda ice that had fallen out of the freezer and was melting on the floor when I hear lots of jumping upstairs in Cole's room. So, like any "good" mom, I yell upstairs for them to behave. Of course, they don't and I am trying to get the baby into her highchair and some dinner while I am still trying to get the other things finished and just as I am going to go upstairs to (yes again) yell at them to behave. Bria starts crying, which makes me mad instead of feel bad. When she gets downstairs there is a LOT of blood on her already and she won't open her mouth. Once I make her open her mouth so much blood comes out that I honestly thought she was throwing up blood. Then through hysteric sobs she tells me they were jumping off Cole's bed (later when she was more calm I found out they were jumping off of Cole's dresser onto his bed and her face hit the rail on his bed). So there was a lot of craziness of calling doctors and then changing my mind and deciding to go to the urgent care because it was bleeding so much and trying to figure out what to do with kids (Austin was not home yet). Finally we got things taken care of thank you my great neighbors and their daughters. They came over really fast to watch my kids during dinner time. Diana ended up crying almost the whole hour I was gone (remember she'd been pretty cranky and was wanting to go to bed). They wouldn't take any money and they actually want to watch them again!

So when we get to urgent care they have a nurse come and look at it and because of how deep and far the cut is they tell me if they fix it it will probably scar and she won't smile the same anymore. So they bring us back and get her cleaned up and get her some medicine and call the hospital and then the plastic surgeon all without charging us anything. The plastic surgeon was in the middle of something, but was great enough to suggest meeting at his office later that evening (9 pm) so we wouldn't have to be charged all the ER and hospital stuff. He was SOOOO great and kind to Bria and we were home a little after 10. Bria was a trooper and stayed still for the shots and the stitches She looks more horrible today than yesterday. The plastic surgeon said it cut all the way to the fat and we can fix the scar if it does heal funny. The only good thing is that Bria can't suck her thumb with the stitches and so this might be the end of thumb sucking. She doesn't seem to miss it at all. I'm posting a few pictures. I don't have any until after the urgent care. She looked horrible and had blood all over her when we went in, but since she was bleeding so much I wasn't thinking about pictures.

Diana is starting to pull herself up to standing a lot now so I've included a picture of her standing and of Cole, Bria's partner in crime. I was hoping he would understand not to be so crazy anymore after this, but he's just jealous of all the attention that Bria is getting. Oh yes, and of course the exploded soda picture too. I'm still working on getting that all clean up!

I don’t know if the caption for this one is: “I don’t like this one about, when he comes in I put him out”or “This is how we make sure our children grow UP at the Hammer Home.” The kids were picking tomatoes and raspberries when he found this and decided to wear it. Cole then decided he wanted to come in the house with this on and chase his sister in bull position with this on, I had to keep putting him out. Cole’s on a roll today. He keeps going around and saying “That’s annoying” over and over. When I ask him what he says “That’s annoying.” I am starting to see what he means.

And I added a picture of the two girls that are home with me right now. My cute little B and Diana loves to get her picture taken all most as much as she loves to explore (aka get in trouble).
